Where to stay near Moraine Lake

There are no hotels along the shore apart from Moraine Lake Lodge. For every other stay you choose a base and plan the transfer. Lake Louise village is the closest, about 14 km by road. Banff and Canmore lie farther down the valley and need a transfer with a change or a commercial pickup.

The base matters because you cannot drive to the lake in your own car. A bed at the lake means private road access. A bed elsewhere means a reserved shuttle seat or a day trip. See Moraine Lake tours for pickups from Banff, Calgary and Lake Louise. Room prices and availability change, so ask each property directly.

For most visitors who do not stay at the lodge, Lake Louise village is the best base for Moraine Lake, because it has the shortest transfer. Choose Banff if the lake is only one stop on a longer trip.

Staying at Moraine Lake Lodge

The one place to sleep at the shore.

The lodge is the only way to wake up at the lake. Registered overnight guests receive access information from the lodge. The car park is private and cannot be passed on to friends or visitors. Guests also use the canoes without a separate rental price. The lodge's summer period is 1 June to 1 October. That is not the same as the shuttle season, so check the dates for your year before you book.

If you stay here you skip the shuttle queue, but your day still follows the lake's weather. Dawn is possible without a bus. For what to expect from a sunrise, see the sunrise page. For prices and rooms, contact the lodge itself.

Staying in Lake Louise village, Banff or Canmore

What the transfer looks like from each.

Lake Louise village

The regular Parks Canada shuttle leaves from the Park and Ride at Lake Louise Ski Resort, 1 Whitehorn Road, and runs from 06:30 to 17:00 every 30 minutes. The last return to the Park and Ride is at 19:30. Do not mix up the village, the Lakeshore lot and the Park and Ride. The early Alpine Start shuttle leaves at 04:00 and 05:00 from Lake Louise Lakeshore.

Banff

There is no direct Roam route to Moraine Lake in 2026. The reserved Roam Super Pass starts in Banff: you take the 8X to Lake Louise Lakeshore and then the Parks Canada Lake Connector to the lake. The adult fare was CAD 30 and you need a same-day return reservation. Commercial tours also pick up in Banff. For the town itself, see the Banff town guide.

Canmore

Roam route 3 takes you to Banff, where you change to the reserved 8X. Allow extra time. Some commercial tours pick up in Canmore, so check the departure point and time before you book.

Book transport first

In 2026 the shuttle booking opened on 15 April at 08:00 Mountain time with 40 percent of seats, and the rest followed 2 days before travel at 08:00. Reserve the seat first, then the bed. The shuttle page has fares and rules.

Winter and shoulder months

The lodge and the bus run in summer. Outside that period the lake is not an easy visit. See Is Moraine Lake open? for the season.

Where to stay in the wider area

Towns, districts and the park as a whole.

This page only covers how each base fits a visit to Moraine Lake. For a full choice of towns, hotels and districts across the park, read where to stay in Banff National Park. Time from Calgary airport to the lake is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours by road, so plan a night closer to the lake before an early shuttle.
